Founder Jim Lawson
Woodland Community Care Car
During his lifetime, Jim Lawson was a successful businessman, a dedicated family man, and generous philanthropist and community volunteer. As the Founder of the Community Care Car, we are honored to continue Jim’s legacy of volunteers helping seniors.
Jim Lawson was born and raised in Woodland, California. He attended Laugenour Grammar School then Woodland High School. At the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the Navy and served as a corpsman aboard the USS Reclaimer in the Korean War. Once he returned from the war, Jim met and married the love of his life, Lois Ann Hazeman. They remained married for 56 years.
In 1969, Jim opened Lawson Real Estate and Propery Management, which still exist today. Jim worked with a number of developers on multiple projects in Woodland and started several businesses, such as The Real Estate School, The Rental Information Company and ERA Mortgage services. and had a lifetime teaching credential at Yuba Community College, known as Woodland Community College today.
Jim's commitment to the community was never ending. He was an active member of the Yolo County Board of Realtors, President of St. John’s Retirement Village, The Kiwanis Club and Yolo Fliers Club. He was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Y.E.S., and Adult Day Health Center.
In 1973, Jim identified a great need for transportation services for Woodland senior citizens. Jim used his business experience and personal relationships to establish the Community Care Car. Due to Jim’s vision of a volunteer rum organization and supported by community donations, the Community Care Car has been providing needed transportation services to local seniors for over 50 years.
